Given the choice between two weak tea bags, Australia elected a weak tea bag, says Rebekah Barnett. Liberal leader Peter Dutton even lost his seat, a reflection of his hopeless deficit in personality and policies.

Vote NO To Austerity Treaty

category national | rights, freedoms and repression | press release author Monday May 21, 2012 12:59author by Josephine Hayden - Republican Sinn Féinauthor email jo.hayden at oceanfree dot net Report this post to the editors

Public meeting calling for NO vote in austerity treaty

Republican Sinn Féin, are calling on people to vote NO in the referendum on the Fiscal Treaty on May 31. The treaty, if passed, will perpetuate austerity for decades to come.
The referendum is an opportunity to send out a clear statement of intent that people are not prepared to cede any more power to the undemocratic and un-elected bureaucratic elite that is the EU. A NO vote will be a positive step towards regaining control of our future and that of the generations to come.
Austerity has been rejected by the French and Greek people and now it is the turn of the citizens of this state to reject them also.

"This treaty will create a further erosion of our sovereignty and give the bosses in Germany total control of out financial affairs. At present because of the man-made financial disaster we find ourselves in, we are paying astronomical sums of money back to the bankers much to the determent of the most vulnerable in our society.

"This has to change but it will not come about by handing over all power to Europe, it will come about by saying no and letting the Leinster house politicians know that the people of Ireland are no longer going to tolerate bad government and bad decisions.

"The unelected bureaucrats of Europe should not be allowed to force more austerity measures on the innocents while the guilty get bonus’s instead of jail.

"Fear is the ultimate weapon being used by the Leinster house politicians in order to get people to vote yes. Nobody is being asked to vote for this treaty on its merits but they are being intimidated to vote yes through the threat that it will be worse for you if you don’t.

"Every week we see our youth emigrate because Ireland can no longer provide a workplace or home for them, yet we continue to pay the bankers, it is time to say stop and say no more job losses, no more evictions, and no more forced emigration"
