More from the IGB website.
The inaugural Night of Stars meeting will be staged on Shelbourne Park on Saturday night with the eight Championship races carrying the hugely impressive prizemoney of €92,000.
Virtually all the details have now been finalised for the night and all that remains is for the Racing Office to make the hugely difficult decision on the actual contenders for the eight racesThe ambitious project has been funded by a combination of eight sponsors, generous funding from the IGB and the sale of €100 Restaurant Club tickets. As of yesterday evening over 400 people have joined the Club and they are the people who deserve most credit.
The organisers set out to make this a Night of Celebration of Irish Greyhound Racing with the best greyhounds in the world competing over every distance. The result is eight Championship races, each carrying a winner’s prize of €10,000, with the remaining four races being the quarter finals of the Comerford Cakes National Puppy Stake.
The trophies for the eight winners alone are quite special, being specially commissioned works from Galway Crystal and they will proudly adorn any sideboard. It is hoped that the Night of Stars will become a permanent end of season celebration for greyhound enthusiasts and the “bash” at Shelbourne on Saturday week should prove to be the ideal launch pad.
The list of entries for the night grows more impressive by the day and this promises to be a real International Feast of racing.
Night of Stars Committee Chairman Pat O’Donovan said yesterday: “We couldn’t be happier with the way things are going. We have received massive support from within the industry and we are looking forward to what should be one of the greatest nights on an Irish track”
