THIS SATURDAY at 4pm: Direct Action against Top Oil on Amiens Street
dublin |
anti-war / imperialism |
press release
Wednesday September 24, 2003 12:54 by Direct Action Against War (Dublin)

Assemble after the main march. Calling all: Anarchists, Bohemians, Catholic Workers, Direct Actioners, Environmentalists, Fairies, Grassrooters, Homosexuals, Indymedia Heads, Joint Smokers, Kids, Libertarians, Marxists, Non-Aligned, Occupiers, Pacifists, Queers, Ravers, Situationists, Trouble Makers, Underground Activists, (cant think of anything beginning with V), Wierdos, Xtians, Yellow Belly Liberals, Zebras !? (I hate those last few letters!!)
THIS SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th: Direct Action Against War are calling for a direct action against TOP OIL/TEDCASTLES OIL who refuel the US military planes in Shannon, in breach of our neutrality.
This action is being supported by Reclaim The Streets and Dublin Grassroots Network Against War.
We will be marching along with the main IAWM/PANA/NGOPA demonstration which leaves the Garden of Remembrance at 2.30pm. This demonstration is finishing up around 4pm in Merrion Square outside the back entrance to the Dáil.
At the end of the IAWM march we will assemble at north east corner of Merrion Square (closest to Nassau Street).
We are then marching to the TOP OIL GARAGE ON AMIENS STREET and will blockade it.
This will be a peaceful, non violent direct action.
WHY BOYCOTT TOP OIL? The company, which refuels the American military at Shannon, is called Top Aviation Fuels. This is a subsidiary of Top Oil, a sub-section of Tedcastle Holdings. (taken from the Boycott Top Oil website: http://boycotttopoil.cjb.net/)
Top Oil refuel the war planes that carry US military personnel and equipment.
WHY A DIRECT ACTION? Direct Action is a method of protest that deals directly with the issue. Previous examples of succesful antiwar direct actions are the attacks on the planes by Eoin Dubsky, Mary Kelly, and the Catholic Worker 5, and other demonstrations that have breached the perimeter fence at Shannon Warport.
Top Oil gains financially from the deaths of human beings - and are aiding the breach of our neutrality. By shutting them down we are aiming to hit them where it hurts - in the pocket.
We hope that all those that favour this method of action to help stop refuelling of US Military planes in Shannon will join us on this demonstration.
Join us at the end of the main march at the north east corner of Merrion Square, at Nassau Street. Assemble around the black flags to symbolise the death of innocent people at the hands of the US Military.
