Who are the Belfast Poets?

category antrim | arts and media | press release author Monday July 11, 2005 13:04author by Colin Dardis - Belfast Poetsauthor email colonyink at yahoo dot co dot ukauthor address 1 Pakenham Mews, Belfast, BT7 1XAauthor phone 07708931616 Report this post to the editors

Belfast based arts group at large seeks new blood.

An introduction to the comings and goings of Belfast Poets, an active performance group of like-minded artists.

Belfast Poets are a collective of not only brassy and dexterous poets, but also attracts artists and writers of many inks and ilk. They have an online community at www.belfastpoets.com, and regularly meet up in various venues in Belfast. Recently they have held readings at Bookfinders Café and the Safehouse Arts Space, and are keen to attract new readers and listeners to future readings. They perform in a variety of styles and guises, and are always welcoming of new blood to the poetry scene.

They also occasionally display themselves externally as a slamming team and traveling performance group called Critical Mass. We have been involved in Between the Lines, Cathedral Quarter Festival, Castlereagh verbal arts festival, the Laganside Poetry Slam; many of our members have performed in Amsterdam, Dublin, Galway, Prague, Budapest and Copenhagen.

The purpose of the website is to create an online platform for these characters to showcase their work for the wider world (and his/her cousin) to see, to make people aware of events we participate in and to give the poor critters something to do.

Belfast Poets welcome readers of all backgrounds, and are actively supportive of many charitable organisations, both locally and nationally. Their members are always eager to encourage any good causes, so if you are interested in attending one of their events, wish to read your own work, or just merely listen and enjoy the craic, check out www.belfastpoets.com for the latest news, or contact the webmaster at editor@belfastpoets.com.
