Navan Public Meeting: Capitalism is Failing Us, Anarchism is Fighting Back

category meath | anti-capitalism | event notice author Sunday October 18, 2009 13:40author by WSM - 1st May Branch WSM Report this post to the editors

Public Meeting
Newgrange Hotel, Bridge Street, Navan, Co Meath
Saturday 14th November 2009
4pm

The Workers Solidarity movement, an organisation of anarchists in Ireland, will host a talk in the Newgrange Hotel, Bridge Street, Navan, Co Meath on Saturday 14th November 2009 at 4pm on the economic crisis, its causes and the anarchist alternative.

We’ll discuss why it is that from its very beginning capitalism has had these booms and busts that cause so much chaos and hardship in ordinary peoples’ lives. We’ll challenge the notion that recessions are unexpected problems in capitalism that can be solved this time around by some more piecemeal efforts at reform. We’ll show why it’s never worked before and it’s naïve to believe that it can work now. As politicians trumpet a return to the ‘business as usual’ of multi-million bankers’ bonuses, brown envelopes and duck houses we ask whether this unstable and unfair system is really the best we can do.

We’ll go on to explore the anarchist alternative. Anarchists challenge the view that fragments our problems instead of looking at them as part of a complex system. Our solution is a society organized by free and equal people who work in cooperation to achieve their goals themselves, without leaders. We know that people are happier and that they do better in societies where wealth and power are distributed more equally and where they have personal freedom. We can only move on from capitalism if we work together to build that new society, starting small and showing what can be done.

If you want to find out more about our ideas or if you want to talk about how you and your workmates and friends can get involved in the fightback against the current economic craziness, come along to the meeting and join in the discussion.
