Protest against the deportation of the Adeniran Family

Balbriggan Youth Unite Against Deportation

A meeting of over 40 youths of Balbriggan has called on the government to overturn the decision to deport the Adeniran family and to grant them asylum here in Ireland. A protest has been called for this friday (23rd July 2010) in the Square of Balbriggan, beside the library, at 18:30. All who support the Adeniran family must attend!

The “Friends of the Adeniran family” campaign have called a protest on Friday July 23rd at 6.30pm at the Square in Balbriggan in solidarity with the Adeniran family. The family is faced with deportation after their claim for asylum was turned down.

The demonstration was called by a meeting of around 40 people, mainly school students who attend Balbriggan Community College with Bola Adeniran, the older of two brothers in the family.

One of the student organisers, Tunde Toki, commented:

“After the deportation of their father to Nigeria last Wednesday, Bola and his family were forced to go into hiding to avoid deportation. It’s disgraceful that the family was split up like this. They have been living in Ireland for 6 years but their appeal against the refusal to grant them asylum has now been refused.

“Bola is a star student who is very much liked by the whole school community. Nevertheless, the courts have even refused to let him stay in Ireland long enough to sit his Leaving Cert exams next summer.”

Cian McLeod, another organiser added:

“Bola should be allowed to stay in Ireland long enough to complete his secondary education and in fact the deportation order should be reversed and the family reunited in Ireland.

“We are calling the whole community as well as TDs and councillors to support this solidarity campaign by joining the protest on Friday.”
